Pakistan’s Lahore High Court has appointed opposition advocate Ali Changezi Sandhu in the case of Punjabi woman Sarabjit Kaur as co-chairman of the International Human Rights Committee (IHRC) for the year 2026.

Ali Changezi Sandhu was given the appointment letter yesterday i.e. on 26th February. Whereas this appointment is considered to be effective from 24 September 2025. This honor was given to him for his courageous and excellent legal work in the case of Sarabjit Kaur.
Advocate Ali Changeji Sandhu, on behalf of Sarabjit Kaur’s husband, had also filed a petition in the High Court to cancel Sarabjit’s marriage. It was argued that Sarabjit Kaur had not obtained divorce from her earlier marriage, then converted to Islam and married a Pakistani citizen, which is not valid under Pakistani/Islamic law.
