Counting of general elections continues in Nepal. Initial trends have come for 165 seats. Rapper and former mayor of Kathmandu Balen Shah’s Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has emerged as the largest party.
RSP has won 22 seats so far, while it is leading in 94 seats. This party was formed just 4 years ago by Rabi Lamichhane, a journalist.
Whereas former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s party CPN-UML has won only 1 seat so far, while it is ahead on 14 seats.
KP Oli himself is trailing Balen Shah by 25 thousand votes on Jhapa-5 seat. He has got only 9 thousand votes, whereas Balen Shah has got around 35 thousand votes. Oli had won the 2017 and 2022 elections from Jhapa-5 seat.
After the violent protests in September last year, 58% people cast their votes in the elections held on March 5. It is expected to take 3 to 4 days to complete the counting of votes. The Election Commission has said that efforts will be made to complete the counting by March 9.
