In America, a 25-year-old boy named Alex Lamori, suffering from a mental condition called autism, died in police firing in Maryland. It was told that during a mental crisis, the young man himself called 911 and asked for help for a wellness check.
According to the family, Alex had a safety plan in case of a mental crisis, which included calling the police if needed. His mother had also previously told authorities that her son was autistic and may be at risk of self-harm.
When police arrived at the apartment complex on the night of February 28, they initially did not find Alex. Later, he was seen coming towards the police from the parking lot with a knife in his hand.
Police say officers asked him several times to drop the weapon, but he continued to move forward. After this, three officers opened fire, killing him. Three police officers involved in the incident have been sent on administrative leave. The investigation into the case is ongoing and body-camera footage may be released soon.
