Alexander Leonov, Russia’s leading scientist associated with the BrahMos missile project, has died at the age of 74. He was among Russia’s leading missile designers.

Leonov was the CEO and Chief Designer of NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOMASH), a major partner of India-Russia BrahMos Aerospace.

He was known for his development of advanced missile technology. He contributed to many important projects including Zircon hypersonic cruise missile.

Apart from this, he also played a role in the development of missile and coastal defense systems like Granit, Vulcan and Bastion.
