For the first time in the 80-year history of the United Nations, there is hope for female leadership at the top position. The tenure of current chief Antonio Guterres will end in December. This time four candidates have been shortlisted. Two of these women are Michelle Bachelet (74) and Rebecca Grinspan (70). Both will be debated in New York on April 21-22. Michelle was the first female President of Chile while Rebecca was the Vice President of Costa Rica. Michelle – studied medicine after seeing patients suffering due to lack of resources. Rebecca was then the Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development. He became the chief negotiator and conducted talks between Russia, Turkey and Ukraine. The result was an export agreement from the Black Sea, which brought 33 million tonnes of grain to the market. Prices dropped by 23%. Her politics started with a phone call from the President’s Office in the 80s, which made her an economic advisor, then Deputy Minister of Finance, and in 1994, she became the Vice President of the Central American country Costa Rica.
