Army kills drug smuggler in Mexico: Supporters enraged; Vandalized the airport, set fire to hundreds of vehicles on the road

The Mexican Army on Sunday killed the biggest drug smuggler Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes alias El Mencho in an operation. El Mencho was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Mexico’s largest drug cartel. After El Mencho’s assassination, his supporters blocked roads for several hours in Jalisco and other states. Hundreds of vehicles parked nearby were set on fire. In a viral video on social media, a cloud of smoke is seen rising over the tourist city of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco. People are running to the airport out of fear. Air Canada announced it was suspending flights to Puerto Vallarta due to the ongoing security situation and advised customers not to go to its airport. Trump had declared the cartel a terrorist organization. The US State Department had offered a reward of up to USD 15 million for information leading to the arrest of El Mencho. Jalisco New Generation Cartel known as CJNG. One of the most powerful and fastest growing criminal organizations in Mexico. This cartel was formed in 2009. In February this year, the Trump Administration declared the cartel a foreign terrorist organization. One of the main suppliers of cocaine to the US market, the cartel is considered as powerful as the Sinaloa Cartel, one of Mexico’s most notorious criminal groups. It has a presence in all 50 states of America, where it distributes tons of drugs. It is one of the main suppliers of cocaine to the US market and, like the Sinaloa Cartel, makes billions from the production of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
