Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland has been admitted to hospital after reportedly attempting suicide. According to media reports, this incident happened last week. Some reports claimed that the Norwegian Editors’ Association had agreed with his lawyer not to make the matter public. However, this news appeared on some media platforms citing his serious condition. This entire matter is related to the ongoing investigation regarding his relations with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Jagland is accused of ‘Aggravated Corruption’, which carries a maximum of 10 years in jail. His lawyer’s firm, Alden Law Firm, confirmed to CNN that he has been charged with serious corruption, but he has denied all charges. Norway’s economic crimes investigation agency Okokrim is investigating the case. Agency director Paul Lonseth said that strong grounds have been found for investigation against him. As part of the investigation, his house and two other properties in Oslo were searched. The agency also said it was investigating whether he received gifts, trips, loans or other benefits during his time in office. After the search, he has been formally given the status of suspect and will now be interrogated. Jagland has said that her relationship with Epstein was the result of “bad judgment” or “poor understanding”, but that she did nothing illegal. He said that he will cooperate fully in the investigation and wants the truth to come out completely.
