Trump expressed desire to occupy Iran’s Kharg Island
Trump has said that he is currently considering the option of occupying Kharg Island from Iran. He said that America has many options on this issue.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Trump said, “Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options.” He also said that if America occupies there, it will have to remain there for some time.
Kharg Island is located in the northern part of the Persian Gulf and is a very important oil center for Iran. About 90 percent of Iran’s oil is exported from here, hence it is considered very important for its economy.
Some White House officials believe that if the island is captured, it could completely weaken the economic position of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and pave the way for ending the war.
At the same time, according to American intelligence reports, Iran has also increased its preparations on Kharg Island in view of the attack. Additional troops and air defense systems have been deployed there and security has been strengthened.
