Toilet problem on America’s nuclear aircraft carrier: Soldiers standing in line for 45 minutes; Toilet jam due to design flaw

The American nuclear aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford, moving towards Iran, is facing a different crisis. Most of the toilets on the ship are closed. Due to this, more than 4,500 sailors have to stand in line for 45 minutes every day. Toilets are repeatedly getting clogged due to narrow pipelines and design flaws in the vacuum-based system. The ship runs on a vacuum-based sewage system, with a valve failure causing the entire department’s toilet system to shut down. According to media reports, there are also reports of clashes between technicians and soldiers, as the repair engineers are working for about 19 hours a day. Last year in March also, there were complaints of 205 toilets being damaged in four days. There are more than 600 toilets on the aircraft USS Gerald Ford has more than 600, which are divided into 10 different zones. This aircraft has been in the sea for the last eight months, due to continuous operational movement, routine maintenance has not been done. This warship, built at a cost of about 13 billion dollars, is considered to be the most expensive in the world. This aircraft carrier was commissioned in 2017. What is causing the trouble with the vacuum-based system? The technology being mentioned behind the sewage problem is called vacuum-based VCHT system. It works completely differently from the toilet system used in common homes. VCHT stands for Vacuum Collection, Holding and Transfer System. This is a special type of sewage management system, which is installed in big ships and cruise ships. Its purpose is to collect toilet waste with less water and store and transfer it safely. How does it work? When you flush the toilet at home, the dirt goes down into the sewer due to water pressure and gravity. But such a system is not completely effective on sea-going ships. In VCHT system, vacuum (suction) is created in the pipe as soon as flush is pressed. This suction pulls the dirt and sends it through a pipe to a big tank. Later that waste is processed or disposed. Think of it like a vacuum cleaner sucking up dust. Here also the same technology is applied in toilet system. Why is this system necessary in ships? More than a thousand people stay at sea on an aircraft carrier for months. In such a situation, water is limited and space is less. Also, the pipeline does not go straight but goes in many directions. Therefore, a more flexible system that uses less water is installed. VCHT system flushes with less water, thereby saving water. Gerald R. is deployed at sea from 2025. Ford Gerald R. Ford has been continuously deployed at sea since June last year. Aircraft carrier deployments typically last for nine months, but may be extended as military activity increases. The Ford is powered by a nuclear reactor and can accommodate more than 75 military aircraft. These include early warning aircraft like F-18 Super Hornet fighter jet and E-2 Hawkeye. It is also equipped with a state-of-the-art radar system, which helps in controlling air traffic and navigation. Tension is continuously increasing between America and Iran. Tension is continuously increasing between America and Iran. America has deployed its largest air force in the Middle East since the 2003 Iraq War. According to reports, America has deployed several squadrons of advanced fighter jets like F-35, F-22, F-15 and F-16 in the Middle East. Command and control aircraft required for large-scale air operations are also being sent. Air defense systems have also been deployed in the area in recent weeks. According to the report of American news agency Axios, if America takes military action, it will be a major operation lasting several weeks. The report says that this operation will be much bigger than the limited action taken in Venezuela last month and it is possible that it may be carried out in collaboration with Israel. Its target could be Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure. USS Abraham Lincoln is already deployed in the Arabian Sea. American warship USS Abraham Lincoln is already deployed in the Arabian Sea. Many cities of Iran are in its strike range. USS Abraham Lincoln was previously deployed in the South China Sea. On January 18, it crossed the Strait of Malacca and entered the Indian Ocean. Apart from this, America has deployed USS Theodore Roosevelt and several missile destroyer warships. America is now in a position to attack Iran’s nuclear bases, military bases and command centers from both sea and air.
