- Israel Death Penalty Law Palestinians Guilty Of Attacks Face Execution; Ministers Celebrate

The Israeli Parliament has passed a new law, under which Palestinians convicted in the attacks will be directly hanged. This law is being seen as fulfilling the promise of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition government.
According to the law, if found guilty in military courts, death will be the default punishment and the punishment will be implemented within 90 days. There will be no right to mercy petition, although in some special circumstances the option of life imprisonment has been given.
Critics say that this law will mainly apply to Palestinians and is being described as discriminatory. Many countries including Germany, France, Italy and Britain have also criticized it.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called it a violation of international law. Israeli human rights organizations have also challenged this law in the Supreme Court. Experts believe that this law may come under legal scrutiny.
As soon as this law was passed, Netanyahu’s ministers opened a bottle of champagne in the parliament itself and started celebrating. Israel abolished the death penalty in murder cases in 1954 and executed Nazi official Adolf Eichmann in 1962, the only such case to date.

Explosion in highway tunnel in China, 4 dead, 9 injured, fear of explosion due to flammable gas
A massive explosion occurred on Monday afternoon in a highway tunnel under construction in Wenzhou district of Chongqing Municipality, China. 4 people died in the accident, while 9 people are injured.
Initial reports revealed that 12 people were injured and one person was missing. Late night the rescue team recovered the body of the missing person. Three of the injured admitted to the hospital died during treatment, taking the death toll to four.
The accident occurred near the tunnel section of the national highway connecting Hubei and Sichuan provinces.
Preliminary investigation suspects that the explosion was caused by flammable gas present inside the tunnel. However, the administration has not confirmed this yet.
After the incident the entire area has been sealed. Rescue and investigation teams are deployed at the spot and the cause of the accident is being ascertained.
