A tram derailed and crashed into a nearby shop window in Milan city of Italy on Friday. Two people died in the accident, while about 40 people were injured. A spokesperson of the local fire department said that the train went straight into a shop after derailing. There was chaos at the spot and panic spread among the people present nearby. According to local emergency services, 13 ambulances were sent to the spot. Civil defense teams also set up a temporary tent there to help the injured. According to eyewitnesses, relief and rescue operations were started immediately. Milan transport company ATM issued a statement saying the tram involved in the accident was one of the newer models operating in the city. The company expressed deep sorrow over the incident and expressed condolences to the affected people. ATM said it is working with relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the accident. At present the reasons for the accident are not known. The officers’ investigation is ongoing.
