According to Canadian media reports, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has prepared a list of 296 gangsters from different countries. Of these, 32 gangsters have also been ordered to be deported by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

What did the leader of the opposition say in the Canadian Parliament?
- Gangsters allowed to enter without screening: House opposition leader Pierre Poilievre said the Liberal government’s failed policies have created a crisis of extortion in Canada. Its cases are coming continuously. “The government allowed gangsters from the Lawrence Gang to enter Canada without any rigorous screening,” he alleged.
- Living as fake refugees: He told the Parliament of Canada that gangsters are now being allowed to live here even after being convicted. Gangsters make some fake claim of being refugees. He said his party had proposed deporting gangsters if convicted.
- Demand for amendment in law: The opposition has demanded from the government that strict action should be taken against any gangster who demands extortion or commits other crimes. A law should be made to expel fake refugees from Canada. For this, if necessary, the law should be amended.

Helpline launched
Police launched a helpline called Surrey Extortion Tip Line – 236-485-5149. Which is monitored from 9 am to 5 pm seven days a week.
Those giving information will get reward
Police have created a reward fund of 2.5 lakh dollars (about more than Rs 2 crore) for those who provide important information to curb the crime. In this, a reward of up to 1 lakh dollars can be given for providing specific information that leads to the punishment of the culprits. It is believed to be one of the largest police rewards in Canadian history.

Extortion task force formed
The government has created an extortion task force led by the RCMP, which also includes immigration officials. B.C. Surrey Premier David Abbey and Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke have called for increased federal aid. Surrey Police Services has deployed 15 officers and civilian employees to a task force set up to investigate extortion. Officers from other agencies have also been included in the task force. Canada Border Services Agency has also been added to this investigation.
Patrolling increased in sensitive areas
Apart from this, a team named Project Assurance is patrolling daily in those areas which have been targeted by criminals. Police have also met with officials from other cities, including Edmonton and Peel Region, to share intelligence and investigative strategies.
