North Korea once again demonstrated its military might by firing ballistic missiles on Sunday morning. The missiles were fired from near the city of Sinpo on the east coast towards the sea and traveled about 140 km.
This is the fourth missile test this month and the seventh of the year. According to former South Korean security adviser Kim Ki-jung, the move is part of a strategy to show strength ahead of possible talks with the US and South Korea.
South Korea termed this action as a provocation and called an emergency meeting as a violation of the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. Japan also confirmed that these did not fall in its economic zone.
International Atomic Energy Agency head Rafael Grossi recently said that North Korea is rapidly expanding its nuclear capacity and may be working on a new uranium enrichment center.
In March, Kim Jong Un had said that his country would remain a nuclear power and expanding this capability was necessary for national security.
