A strong earthquake of 7.5 Richter intensity occurred in Japan on Monday. After this, a tsunami warning has been issued in the coastal areas. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), waves up to 3 meters high are expected in Iwate Prefecture and parts of Hokkaido and Aomori. Officials have appealed to people to immediately move to higher ground and stay away from the coast and rivers. Relief and emergency services are monitoring the situation and assessing possible damage. Rail service halted Tohoku Shinkansen bullet train service has been temporarily halted between Tokyo Station and Shin-Aomori Station after the earthquake was recorded. The operator said that this step has been taken for security reasons. Apart from this, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has said that it is investigating any damage at Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushima Daini Nuclear Plants. The operator of the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Plant has said that no abnormality of any kind has been reported so far. It has also been said that radiation levels around the plant remain normal.
