Pakistan- Accused of buying luxury jet for CM Maryam: Price Rs 10 billion; Minister said- bought for government airline

In Pakistan, the Punjab government has been accused of buying a luxury jet for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. According to the report of Tribune Express, the price of this Gulfstream G500 model aircraft is around 10 billion Pakistani rupees. Controversy has intensified on social media regarding the purchase of the aircraft. It is being claimed that this jet has been purchased for the use of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. According to reports, this aircraft is currently registered in America and is not yet registered in Pakistan. Its registration number is said to be N144S. Punjab Information Minister Ajma Bokhari has denied the allegations and said that this jet is not for the Chief Minister but is part of the fleet being prepared for Air Punjab. Gulfstream G500 is no less than a five-star hotel. The Gulfstream G500 is counted among the most luxurious business jets in the world. Its cabin design and amenities make it a five-star suite in the sky. The aircraft typically have seating for 10 to 19 passengers, which can be divided into three separate living areas as per requirement. The seats convert into a completely flat bed. A conference table can be placed in the middle, where meetings can be held. A separate rest area can also be created for rest during long flights. The cabin of the G500 is counted among the quietest cabins in the industry. Cabin pressure and air quality are maintained such that passengers feel less tired during long haul flights. Large oval windows provide much natural light. The aircraft has a separate galley (kitchen space), adequate luggage space and advanced air-filtration system. Modern cockpit system and two powerful engines have been installed for safety. Due to its long range, low noise and hotel-like facilities, it is used for VIP and corporate trips. The controversy started from a pilot recruitment advertisement. The entire controversy of buying a luxury jet started from a pilot recruitment advertisement. In this advertisement issued by the Services and General Administration Department (SGAD), it was said that priority would be given to trained pilots to fly the Gulfstream G-500. As soon as the advertisement appeared, questions began to arise whether the government had already purchased this model of aircraft. Aviation experts say that such an important condition is usually imposed only when the aircraft is already in operation or is going to be inducted very soon. After this, a claim spread on social media that the Punjab government has purchased a luxury jet for the use of the Chief Minister. Punjab Information Minister Ajma Bokhari said in the press conference that a fleet is being prepared for Air Punjab. Some aircraft will be purchased and some will be taken on rent. CM Maryam Nawaz is the first woman Chief Minister of Pakistan. She is the first woman Chief Minister of Punjab province of Pakistan. She assumed office in February 2024 and became the first woman from any province in the country to hold this post. Maryam Nawaz came into active politics in 2011. She started her politics by giving speeches in universities and on women’s issues. The year 2017 was the best for Maryam, but in the same year her father Nawaz Sharif was declared ineligible for elections by the Pakistani Supreme Court after his name appeared in the Panama Papers. From here Maryam took command of her party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz). In the same year, BBC included her in its list of 100 influential women. After this, she managed to make it to the New York Times list of 11 powerful women in the world.
