The firing incident came to light during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, USA. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance were present at the time of the firing. Security forces took them out safely. However, the attacker was killed immediately.
On the instructions of the Secret Service, guests at the event were asked to duck under tables, while Trump, the First Lady and Vice President J.D. Vance and other VIPs were escorted out of the hall.
According to reports, heavily armed security personnel immediately reached the stage and the entire venue was secured.
The firing incident is said to have taken place in the lobby area located above the dinner hall, from where a security alert was immediately issued.
According to media reports, several cabinet members and senior lawmakers, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were quickly evacuated, although most of the guests were still present inside the hall.
Many people were seen walking out after the incident, but an announcement was made from the stage that “the program will resume soon.” However, it is not clear whether President Trump will return to the program or not.
This was Trump’s first time at this dinner after becoming President. He had arrived just minutes before the incident and was chatting with the First Lady. At the same time, the mentalist present on the stage was interacting with him.
